Water

Baptism brings Life

It would be difficult to name an element in all of Creation that is more integral to our daily lives than water. Water refreshes, it soothes, it restores, it cleanses, and it provides the essence of life. It is therefore no accident that God uses the metaphor of water to communicate the refreshing, restoring, cleansing Life that comes through faith in Jesus.

The people of ACTS Church Lakeway believe that water not only symbolizes this new Life, but that it actually is a means through which God transfers this Life to us! The Bible reminds us of the role of Baptism in our own Transformation: “At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior” (Titus 3:3-6).

Baptism is water combined with God’s powerful Word. When we are baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we are mysteriously connected into the reality of the death and resurrection of Jesus. The apostle Paul writes to the first-century church: “Have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives” (Romans 6:3-4).

Since the Bible teaches that Baptism is the starting point in a Journey of faith, we count on it to be true. More importantly, we put this belief into practice. To learn more about the practice of Baptism at ACTS Church Lakeway, look for the PDF file in the Resources section of this website.
