Local Mission

Carrying the mission of Jesus forward

On the same night that Jesus celebrated his final meal with his closest followers (now called ‘the Last Supper), he also prayed this prayer to his Father: “As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world... My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message” (John 17:18, 20).

Jesus’ mission in coming to earth was fulfilled when he sacrificed himself upon the cross and then was raised to life again by the power of the Father. Our mission upon this planet is to use our own unique skills and personalities as we continue in that same pattern of selfless love and Sacrifice. So we share our lives and our resources not only with other followers of Jesus - but also with those who have yet to believe in Jesus. Our prayer is that they also might come to comprehend the loving nature of God through the power of our living message.

One sphere of our service to the world is in ‘local mission.’ This includes all the ways in which we work together with other followers of Christ to ‘be the church’ in the Lake Travis area, within specific targeted contexts. Serving the under-resourced, providing ‘bottomless cookie jars’ to local fire stations, and reaching out with creative kids’ programs are examples of the ways in which the people of ACTS are striving to carry the mission of Jesus forward.
