ACTS History

ACTS Church Lakeway sprang into existence in 2001 after Pastor Bob Mueller was asked by the Texas District LCMS* to launch a new church in the Lake Travis area of Austin. Bob and his wife Shauna and family soon began hosting a small group in their home for Bible study and discussion. This group prayed that God would give them the opportunity to communicate with those who were disconnected from God and from the local church. Initially gathering under the name CrossBridge Community Church, this hard-working group consistently reached out to other individuals and families with surprising acts of kindness. They began meeting regularly for contemporary worship services in a local community center and later in Lake Travis Schools.

After the Mueller family relocated to New Jersey in late 2007, the church went through a period of soul-searching. Convinced that their presence in the Lakeway area was as vital as ever, they invited Pastor Pete Mueller of Ellisville, MO, to re-launch their mission effort. In the spring of 2009, shortly after Pete’s move to Texas, the church took a deep breath of faith and purchased a recently-constructed commercial building on Ranch Road 620 in Lakeway to serve as the headquarters for their growing ministry. The name of the church was changed to ACTS Church Lakeway in the summer of 2009, and the congregation intentionally began living out the values of Adventure, Community, Transformation, and Sending.

ACTS Church Network

In 2011 the ACTS Church Network was initiated with the specific purpose of Helping churches launch churches in the greater Austin area. Between 2012 and 2013, ACTS Church Lakeway identified a group of families who would start a new church on the north edge of Austin under the leadership of Pastor Gabe Kasper. In September of 2013 ACTS Church Leander was officially launched and joined ACTS Church Lakeway in its strategy of Multiplying Followers, Multiplying Leaders, and Multiplying Churches. The ACTS Church Network began strategizing with both churches, praying over a Spirit-fueled goal of launching 25 churches in the greater Austin area by 2025. Most recently, ACTS Church Antioch and ACTS Church Northwest were launched, pastored by Adam Meyer and Barrett Grebing, respectively. By God’s grace, at fifth ACTS church will begin meeting in Kyle, TX in the fall of 2017, led by Andrew Walker.

All of our ACTS Churches are affiliated with the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (*LCMS), a worldwide church body made up of six thousand congregations.
