ACTS Guatemala Trip April 2016 – ‘HOPE’
Since 2013, ACTS has partnered with CALMS (Central American Lutheran Mission Society) and ACTS Church Leander to expand our mission impact globally by developing and training two teams a year to embark on short-term mission trips to Guatemala.
Our strategic partner CALMS is dedicated to building the capacity of national churches and their workers to serve effectively and to impact their communities with the Gospel. CALMS’ strategy involves helping Christian leaders in the USA like our ACTS teams to work successfully with their Central America partners.CALMS works with its partners to design projects that will help Christians from different cultures work and learn side-by-side in order to transform lives.
CALMS’ philosophy is to build on a community’s strengths and resources instead of creating dependency on U.S. partners. This philosophy also helps teams like ours to focus on building relationships in the village as we do leadership development for youth, village leaders and teachers.
ACTS Church Lakway is partnering with the village of San Miguel, located high in the mountains near Huite, which is one of the cities of the department (state) of Zacapa, Guatemala.
Our next mission trip to San Miguel, Guatemala:
October 6 – 13, 2017
Trip to include leadership and community development and kids programming. Interested in joining us or learning more? Contact Pete Mueller at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Guatemala Update from the October 2016 Mission Trip:
The team helped to conduct a dental clinic, held leadership workshops for the scholarship youth and village leaders based on Heroes of the Bible and provided skills training for teachers in the preschool and primary school. The team also checks in on the village’s transition to growing aloe. The first plants will be ready for harvest in a few months!
