Strong fabric
One vital aspect of our human relationships is a thing called ‘commitment.’ Although this word can make a grown man tremble, commitment is the concept that creates the fabric of our most important relationships. When we bind ourselves to something, or to someone, we make vows or pledges. We pre-decide to stick by another person regardless of our emotions on any given day. In the covenant of marriage, for instance, a man and a woman are woven together, “for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish until death parts us...”
In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word for ‘be strong’ means literally ‘to fasten yourself to something.’ In faith, we become fastened to our Savior Jesus. And in covenant, we fasten ourselves to significant people and to the Mission that God gives to the local Church. What a great way to live life - together!
Each year at ACTS Church Lakeway we renew the specific commitments we make toward God and toward one another. Together we set goals for our attitudes and actions that, under God’s Grace, we strive to achieve.
